From our president who rolls up his sleeves in day-to-day operations to the newest lab technician, everyone at Energy Laboratories focuses on marrying our expertise to your individual chemical and environmental testing and analytical needs.
A graduate of Montana State University, Bill attended Eastern Montana College to complete additional coursework in Organic Chemistry and Analytical Instrumentation. He joined Energy Laboratories after completing two years as a fisheries biologist in the Peace Corps. As president, Bill is committed to not only ensuring the company continues to provide outstanding analytical results, but also exceptional client service. In addition to his administrative duties, he remains a valuable part of the scientific team at Energy Laboratories. When not working, Bill is actively involved in volunteerism and spends time with friends and family enjoying all that Big Sky Country has to offer.
Board of Directors
John has been a part of Energy Laboratories since 1981 and knows the company—and industry—inside and out. John holds a BS in Biology and has completed additional training in finance, management, IT and laboratory technology. Growing up in Montana instilled in John a spirit of adventure. He learned to fly an airplane before he received his driver’s license, and still enjoys river rafting and kayaking. On his farm outside of Billings, he raises cattle as well as miniature sheep sold to hobby farmers cross the US.
Tracy A. Dangerfield
Chief Financial Officer, Secretary/Treasurer
While many don’t choose a profession until college, Tracy knew that she wanted to be an accountant from the time she was in second grade. She has been a licensed CPA since 1992 and earned her MBA in 2013. As CFO, she is not only responsible for the company’s fiscal status, but also manages and leads multiple administrative departments within the company. She also loves to garden and travels whenever she can.
Head of Corporate Laboratory Operations, Vice President
With Energy Laboratories since 1997, Lisa works with lab managers throughout the company with issues relating to communication, management, strategy, training and innovation. A native of Bozeman, she is a graduate of Montana State University and received a PhD in analytical chemistry from Indiana University.
Before deciding on a career in chemistry, Lisa briefly majored in piano performance and still enjoys listening to music. She also loves to travel not only throughout Montana, but also around the world. To date, she has traveled to more than 20 countries.
Cindy’s role is to ensure that quality data is produced in a timely manner with excellent customer service, and it’s a role she takes seriously. She excels in communicating with her team and keeping projects moving forward.
She is a graduate of Rocky Mountain College, having earned a BS in Chemistry, and has been a part of the Energy Laboratories team since 2000.
Outside of the office, Cindy loves embarking on outdoor adventures with her family, including camping, fishing and kayaking.
Human Resources Manager
Like many Energy Laboratories team members, Bret has been with the company more than a decade. A Montana native, he has earned his Professional in Human Resources (PHR®) certification from the HR Certification Institute and has completed additional courses in both human resources and accounting.
Senior Project Manager
As Senior Project Manager, Wynn works with lab personnel to deliver the best service to clients day in and day out. A graduate of South Dakota State University, she has been in the industry for over 30 years, and has worked at Energy Laboratories since 1997. After hours, Wynn is an avid golfer and loves to exercise; in fact, she has achieved a 10k first place finish. She also enjoys reading, traveling and sampling microbrews.
In the testing and analysis industry since 1989, Shari is an integral part of the Energy Laboratories team. As a project manager in our Billings office, she works directly with our clients from the initial bidding process through project completion. Believing that our company is known for its quality work and quality people, she is focused on excellence in all aspects of her work.
Born and raised in Montana, Shari earned a B.S. in Petroleum Engineering while competing in the sport speed skating. She ultimately went on to win the titles of National and North American Speed Skating Champion. Shari remains constantly on the go, attending sporting events, camping, fishing and hiking. She is also actively involved in community programs focused on the health and wellbeing of children.
Tabitha’s philosophy of a positive office environment includes ensuring that a job well done does not go unnoticed. In addition to overseeing all shipping, sample receipt and client service team functions, she also focuses on creating a place where all employees can see and achieve their professional potential. When not managing the office, she welcomes every opportunity to spend time having fun with her husband and children.
Client Support Representative
John joined Energy Laboratories in 2013 as a Client Support Representative in the Billings office. Having previously been a client of Energy Laboratories, he has a unique understanding of customer needs and is committed to ensuring client satisfaction.
A Montana native, John is a US Army veteran and a graduate of the University of Montana. He is a high school sports fan, and enjoys cheering on his two daughters. Mountain biking, backpacking, cross-country skiing and river floating are other hobbies he enjoys.
Client Support Representative
Ron joined Energy Laboratories in 2014 as a Client Support Representative/Marketing Coordinator. Ron has an extensive background with over 30 years’ experience in Business Development, Business Management and Marketing. Ron has a unique way connecting with Energy Laboratories clients. A personal hands-on approach learning our clients testing needs is one of the values he brings to our company.
Ron is a native of Montana however he has spent time in Business Development and Management in other areas of the country and the world. Ron was a pioneer with a leading US Video/Music company expanding in the eastern orient opening up retail stores in Japan. He then was relocated by the same company to expand business in the Southwestern area of the US. He came back to Montana to continue his trade. Ron enjoys spending time with his wife of 33 years and has several grandchildren which are his pride and joy.
Dr. Cornelius Valkenburg
Corporate Quality Assurance Officer
Andy Valkenburg’s responsibilities at Energy Laboratories are critical and comprehensive. He ensures that our accreditation status with both state and federal agencies is current and provides needed technical guidance to both staff and clients relating to our QA/QC requirements and activities. Andy also serves as a project manager for specialty projects requiring detailed (Level IV) data reporting packages.
Although he grew up in Washington’s Columbia River Gorge, Andy fell in love with the beauty and people of Montana; in fact, his first date with his wife was a fishing trip just outside of Townsend. He received a BA in Biology with a Minor in Chemistry from Carroll College and later earned a Ph.D. in Chemistry from Montana State University. He has experience in the CLP Superfund Program, involved with Analytical Method Development, PT sample designs and Superfund QA/QC lab auditing.
When not at ELI, Andy enjoys attending his children’s activities, spending time outdoors, working on old cars and doing carpentry work. He is a judge and member of the Billings Clinic Regional Science Fair board, volunteers at ZooMontana and is actively involved in his faith.
Information Technology Manager
Greg is responsible for providing the successful development and operation of all Energy Laboratory hardware and software systems. His team ensures that all electronic records, results and other data is stored securely and that our staff members have the resources needed to complete their work.
Before joining Energy Laboratories, Greg worked with Fortune 500 companies in IT Management roles for over 14 years. He earned a BS in Computer Science from Montana Tech of the University of Montana, where he also minored in Business Management. A native of Montana, he is an active outdoorsman, enjoying hiking, skiing, rafting and hunting.
Chrystal Sheaff Ph.D
Chrystal received her Bachelor’s degree in Biology and Chemistry from Black Hills State University in 2004, and her Ph.D in Analytical Chemistry from the University of Idaho in 2008.
Prior to coming to ELI, she worked as a scientist at Alturas Analytics from 2008 to 2012. Highlights from her work there included the utilization of HPLC-MS/MS technology for bioanalysis, Antibody Drug Conjugates, Dried Blood Spot (DBS) and Dried Matrix Spot (DMS) analysis.
In 2012 Chrystal was hired as an analyst in the ELI-Casper organic department, running HPLC. After learning and progressing through several other organic analyses she has served as the Semi-Volatiles Supervisor and then the overall Casper Organics Supervisor. Before being promoted to Branch Manager she held the position of Operations Manager for Casper.
Client Services Supervisor
Tessa’s education and experience in business administration and customer service has made her an ideal project manager since joining the Energy Laboratories team in 2004. She is committed to answering client questions and resolving concerns, always going the extra mile to meet the needs of those with whom she works. After hours, she and her husband stay busy keeping up with her two young children and volunteering at their schools whenever possible.
Although she describes herself as shy, Corinne is always happy to help our clients as they prepare and submit samples for evaluation: in fact, she is an expert at providing exceptional customer service. She frequently assists with bottle orders, generates quotes, logs in samples, and helps with shipping and invoices.
Corinne moved to Casper in 2004, the same year she began her career at Energy Laboratories. She and her husband and son enjoy camping in the local mountains, doing home improvements together and gardening. Corinne also enjoys spending quality time with a good book.
Mr. Steve Carlston received his B.A degree in Chemistry from the University of Colorado in 1980.
Before joining ELI Steve was the Quality Control Coordinator and Chemist for the Navy Drug Screening Laboratory in Oakland, California. He prepared QA/QC blind samples; tracked and reported results of RIA and GC/MS analyses; trained personnel; and suggested and implemented changes to laboratory Standard Operating Procedures.
Since joining ELI Mr. Carlston has been the Organics Department Supervisor, IT Department Supervisor, Senior Project Specialist and responsible for the maintenance of the ELIs information management system (LIMS) data and QA/QC systems. He is responsible for method development and support; technical data review for specialized reporting; and provides technical assistance and review of CAR and PARs.
As a Branch Manager with Energy Laboratories, Terry has been in the environmental testing industry for nearly three decades. His day-to-day role includes overseeing all aspects of the Gillette branch, including maintaining a reputation for exceptional client service. Terry was born and raised in Wyoming, receiving his AS from Northwest College in Powell and taking additional engineering courses from the University of Wyoming. He is also an active community volunteer, including becoming a Court-Appointed Special Advocate (CASA) for abused and neglected children. On weekends, he can be usually found riding his Harley.
As a project manager, Alyson’s most important role is to ensure that every job is handled efficiently and that customer needs are met. In addition to reviewing and emailing reports, she also assists with sample logins when needed and is the purchasing agent for the Gillette Branch.
After hours, Alyson spends time with her family, including many nights at the pool watching her son and his swim team.
Tracey thrives on the opportunities and challenges that come with her work at Energy Laboratories, where she has been a team member since 2005. A former member of the U.S. Navy, she enjoys the work she completes and is committed to moving projects forward.
In her off-time, Tracey enjoys volunteering, having fun with her children and watching her daughter’s softball tournaments.
A recent graduate of Gillette College, Kasey has worked with Energy Laboratories since 2009. In addition to logging in samples received, she also reviews all work orders, evaluates invoices and perhaps most importantly, maintains a positive work environment for she and the Gillette team.
While in junior high and high school, Kasey received numerous awards for her track prowess. Today she stays just as active chasing after and playing with her son.
Gillette Quality Assurance Manager
After earning Bachelor of Science degrees in Molecular Biology and Zoology/Physiology, Julie worked as a researcher at the University of Utah. She joined Energy Laboratories in 2009. She not only maintains quality systems for the Gillette branch, she also validates all inorganic and micro data as well as helping with technical proofing. She is a native of Wyoming.
Branch Manager Jonathan began his career at Energy Laboratories in 2000, working as a lab technician while attending Carroll College. After receiving his BA in Biology with a minor in Chemistry, he joined the staff full-time. Today he not only works as an Laboratory Manager, he also supervises the Organic Department, reviewing reports, performing analyses and assisting clients.Science has always fascinated Jonathan; in fact, he had the opportunity to attend the month-long National Youth Science Camp in West Virginia prior to attending college. He also enjoys the time he can spend outdoors with his wife and sons, camping, boating and golfing.
Assistant Laboratory Manager
Originally from Kentucky, Amanda received a BA in Chemistry from Carroll College, where she also minored in Biology. A member of the Energy Laboratories team since 2004, she now oversees the QA program, assuring that the lab maintains its certifications. She also manages the Inorganics Department and serves as an organics analyst. She was key in the development of methodologies for thermal desorption air analysis and matrices for VOC’s in soil, water and air. Amanda loves living in Helena because of its sense of community. An animal lover, she volunteers with the local shelter, where she helps to organize spay and neuter clinics.
When your important samples are delivered to the Helena laboratory, they will be in Wanda’s experienced and capable hands. She is responsible for logging in each sample, fulfilling client bottle orders and transmitting samples and invoices. Originally from North Dakota, Wanda has worked with Energy Laboratories since 2003.
After hours, Wanda is active in her church community and welcomes the chance to spend time with her family enjoying outdoor activities. She jokes that when she planned her wedding, she and her husband had to choose between being married on the first day of bird hunting season or the first day of big game hunting season. (No bird hunting for the couple that year.)
A South Dakota native, Dustin was drawn to Montana because of the state’s beauty, recreational opportunities and its people. He graduated from Montana State University-Billings with a B.S. in Biology. He also minored in Chemistry. He joined Energy Laboratories in 2008. In addition to being the primary analyst for ICP-MS, Dustin is responsible for evaluating the efficiency, analysis and reports of metals in water and soil in the inorganics department.
Dustin is a soccer fan and enjoys coaching whenever he can. He once won two tickets to a Liverpool soccer game and headed to England to take in the match. Fortunately he didn’t stay long—he started his career with Energy Labs within a few weeks of his return.
Skyler says that he considers himself lucky to have been able to begin his career in Helena while attending Carroll College, as he enjoys the city and its surrounding area. He received his B.A. from Carroll, having majored in Chemistry and minored in Biology and Business Administration. Today his responsibilities include processing and analyzing soil samples as well as helping to promote a positive and efficient work environment throughout the Helena office.
In his off hours Skyler loves nothing more than spending time outdoors; in fact, he once enjoyed a Peruvian adventure during which he captured a juvenile Anaconda. In the States, his high-energy exploits include biking, fishing, hiking and diving. He is an active member of Lewis and Clark Search & Rescue.
